Good Ol' Arizona

Well, we are now located out of Arizona. This place is hot, very hot. I fully anticipated that things would be cooled off by now, but today was 88 degrees. That seems so odd when back in Utah I'm sure its in the mid 60's.

Tuesday was very exciting here, they had forecasted that there would be some thunderstorms, but I did not think we would get the weather we got that day. There were tornadoes in Flagstaff, golf ball sized hailstones here and it was raining an inch an hour. We had three different storms move in that day. They were popping lightning all of the place and it was right above me.

I was sitting on the couch when the first storm cell moved in. It got dark enough, even though we have windows lining the roof line that I had to turn on the lights to see what I was doing. Then, it started thundering and lightning and my Dish went out. I was like, "great, I live in an area where THIS happens." I was about to call up Dish when it became apparent why the satellite was out. It started hailing and raining and it was hailing hard enough that I started getting worried that the windows might break. I honestly got up and moved away from the windows in case something crazy like that happened.

Wednesday morning I got up early to survey the damage. Brandon and I had gone to the grocery store on Tuesday night and we could tell that there were some trees down, including the one in our front yard, but we weren't sure how bad it was.

This was what I found:

This was standing water the next morning! Clearly things were not evaporating as quickly, nor was it seeping into the ground very quickly.

This was the top portion of the tree outside our house...poor little guy.

This little guy used to majestically stand in front of the entrance to the pool.

This tree was across the street in the green area.

This is what's left of our neighbor's tree.

I was actually very glad to have some weather down here. I had prepared myself for nothing until we come back to Utah for Christmas.

On an odd note, I put my garbage can out for pickup on Tuesday, well, it never came back. I have no idea why someone would want to steal a garbage can, especially since I live by mostly goldie oldies.....does anyone know if for some crazy reason Arizona garbage pickup includes picking up the can and then returning it on a different day???

I still can't believe you live there! Looks like it was an exciting night! (I love big storms... as long as nothing of mine gets ruined lol)
