Tonight, while I was out watering my flower pots I saw our neighbor's little dog get run over and killed. While it was extremely sad and tragic, while I was watching the family grieve it reminded me of all of the times we had the same thing happen with our cats growing up.

It seems like there are tragic accidents far more frequently when its a feline in question. I think we probably had a lot more accidents because we lived by farms and our cats were outside cats and they liked to go mousing at night. Plus, we always had kittens around and no garage at the time, so the kittens thought that playing on the tires of the vehicles was an appropriate thing.

I digress....it reminded me tonight even though it was super sad to see that happen and I'm sure that family will feel awful for a long time because that dog was a part of their family, having pets around growing up taught me about how to deal with sadness. I learned early on that death is a natural part of life and sometimes your family member dies and its ok to be sad and its ok to grieve that animal and then you learn to still remember that pet, but you move on.

I think that I'm going to have to somehow clear Brandon of his allergies so that we can have animals, preferably cats around when we have kids growing up so that they can learn not only how to take care of a pet who is solely dependent on you, but you can learn how to deal with their passing. Sorry for all of you who love your dogs, I get it, I get that they're man's best friend....they're just not Michelle's best friend.

Oh how awful! My heart goes out to your poor neighbors!
And, yes, I think you need to get a cat AND a dog. Maybe just a little, cat-sized dog.

I hear ya! Scott claims to be allergic to Cats and it makes me so sad, one of these days I am just going to bring home a cat and he won't be able to do a thing about it, and I almost guarantee he will become attached to it and realize they are WAY better then dogs :)
