The Death of A Zucchini

There is something evil afoot. That something evil is the dang, blasted wind that has decided to blow incessantly at hurricane force levels. At this point, I have no other option but to just let it ruin my garden. Yep, hours and hours of babying these freaking plants and its about it all be ruined because the wind down here can apparently pick up a grown man and spin him around and drop him off in Kansas before its done.

Last Friday afternoon I had two zucchini plants with a combined total of 4 big, bright, beautiful blooms. Today I am left with one dying zucchini plant and one that's barely hanging on. What happened? Well, the wind came down and snapped my zucchini's vine almost in two. Its barely hanging on. I have a little bit of hope that the poor thing will make it through, but I'm not counting on anything. When I watered last night the blooms on it had shriveled up.

You can't see it very well because the leaves are still yellow, but if it was a leg, it would only be hanging by a tendon.

The zucchini have not been the only victims. I have several stalks of corn that are now horizontal instead of vertical.

How could mother nature do this to me????

The worst part is that I think she may have murdered (or least on her way to doing it) one of my precious pumpkin vines. The vine is whole when it comes out the ground, then it breaks into two pieces and then comes back together again at the top. I'm not sure if this is lethal, but if this happened to me I highly doubt I would feel like producing prize-winning jack-o-lanterns.

The only high note? I have one tomato that in spite of all of his hardships is going to make it!

It just might be the only tomato I get this year, but after this wind I would take only one and be happy!

Oh no! Isn't that so frustrating? It seems like there's always 1 problem after another in our garden too.
