Start o' the Summer

While summer is just starting...or for those of you who are hoping that it will eventually start, I just wanted to alert you to the fact that summer has been up and going for months here. I was laughed at by the soccer moms at the pool the other day when I informed them that I thought it was getting a little toasty. "oh honey, we're just getting started." as they clinked their soda glasses together...just kidding, but it was kind of a funny scene. You really had to be there to appreciate it. Forgive me, but isn't 102 degrees a little warm for the end of May? No matter, there are a few things I'm doing to acclimate myself.

1. A social experiment
2. Bikram yoga
3. Bootcamp in the middle of summer

First off, lets start with the social experiment.....while it may not fill the typical rules of an experiment per se, I am conducting this experiment on myself and Brando (hence the social aspect.) Tonight I will not turn on the air conditioning until bedtime. Then, the cool loveliness of it all will envelope me and I will fall off into sweet dreams of icicles and snowmen and other cold climate things. I figure if I do this a few times, then I'll be just like a native down here...these people don't turn on their a/c until it's 85 inside...FYI the current temp in my casa is 86...and yes I am lounging in my swimming suit. The pool was extra great tonight.

Next, bikram yoga. I highly encourage anyone who would like to try it to go right ahead. It's a fantastic workout and exercise in mentally overcoming craziness around you and all of that deep meditation stuff they spew during the class. In case you're wondering, the class consists of 90 minutes of 105 degrees in 40% humidity while you are twisting and contorting yourself to oblivion; yet you somehow feel fantastic afterwards. Not to mention that the 90 degree weather you left outside? Why that's down right chilly after you add in a breeze.

My last item is bootcamp. I got a super awesome Groupon deal today and signed up...then realized that it doesn't start until June 27th..and is outside. The lady I called to ask whether I should be concerned about this informed me that yes, it will probably be in the mid 90's at 5:30 am and yes lots of people have signed up and in the past 6 years no one has died yet. I'm so glad that she volunteered the last part...death had not even crossed my mind.

Yes, all of these things have been done in an effort so that I can be one of those people who visit Utah in September and moan and groan that it's freezing. I will wear my sweater like a badge of honor!

Don't turn on the AC until it's 85 indoors. I know that Mo canNOT hang. Just so you know... I love reading your blog. Keep it up!
