Summer is Here

Today was hot, really hot. 95 degrees hot. I am not ready for this kind of heat. Fortunately I am told that this is very much a fluke and that it will return to the high 70's low 80's soon. I was extremely glad to see that the weatherman concurred with this opinion.

I went to the pool today and chilled, along with two new, geriatric friends. I guess the heat brings out the snowbirds for one last hurrah before they head home. The pool was too cold for them, I could here them discussing over and over how anyone could get into that cold of water especially at 5:15 at night...all the while I was splashing around doing my laps. I did about fall off of my tanning chair when some little kids came over to get in the hot tub. I have been in the hot tub, it is not a jacuzzi that you want to get in when the thermometer is creeping up to 95 degrees. But I digress.....

The heat is doing wonders for the blooms around here. The desert plants are loving it, and they are even more fragrant than they were a couple of days ago. Brandon and I were driving home last night with the windows rolled down, in shock that the night air could smell that good.

The agave outside my office window has really started to bloom and it smells just delicious. Well, not french toast with cinnamon on it delicious, but you get the picture. I'm glad that the heat is going to subside because I would hate for all of these blooms to die off too quickly.

When my inlaws were visiting in December my father-in-law mistook the agave for aloe vera (a common mistake). He broke off a piece of it to show me that it was aloe vera and dumped some very brown stuff on my arm that dyed it that color for the rest of the day regardless of the number of times I washed my arm. I ended up walking around looking like someone had gotten me ready for surgery. While I am sad that I don't have my own aloe vera factory outside my window, I am super stoked that this little guy creates these blooms.
