We spent the night on Friday night at my parent's house in West Point. The West Point parade starts bright and early at 8:30 am, so it is much easier to sleep up there the night before. Plus, its a lot of fun to get woken up to the smells of waffles being cooked by my dad.
My dad used to be the Mayor of West Point and every year he is supposed to ride in the back on a pickup truck with the other former mayors. I was hoping that he would do it this year, but he refused. I kept my hopes up that he would until we walked down to our "spot" and he kept walking with us instead of going to the front of the parade line.
The West Point parade reminds me a lot of the Raspberry Days parade in Garden City by Bear Lake. There's always a lot of old cars.

Tractors, of course.
Old army equipment.

And last but not least, horses! Apparently horses were in short supply this year as these little guys were the only ones that showed up.

The good thing about the West Point parade you ask? Well, the great thing is that they still throw candy, lots and lots of candy. My little cousins left with a ton of loot. I was already starting to feel pretty sick, so this was the first year I wasn't out there getting the candy with them. I'm sure my family was grateful for that. I've always used the excuse that I was getting the candy for the little kids and I won't get run over. Then, I pick out the cinnamon taffy as my fee and give the rest to the little ones.

It was a little bit chilly that morning. I was jealous of their hoodies, but honestly, who would have thought that you would need a hoodie in Utah on the 4th of July?

It was great that we got to spend the night and half of the day with my family. We were able to relax and just enjoy being lazy. Brandon and I took a 3 hour nap! Then, halfway through the day we headed over to my inlaws.
My mother-in-law has a garden and flower bed to drool over. My favorite part is that she sticks little gnomes and statues in the middle of the plants.

I took this pic with my lensbaby, so that's why it looks a little lunar...but hey, I think it goes with the moon man. Have you ever been to the Garden Store by Trolley Square? That is where she got this little guy and I'm in love. I think that I'm going to have to stop by to get one myself.
Alright! I'm done, I think this qualifies as a novella, don't you think?
And btw, my computer is haunted. I specifically sized my pictures to be much smaller but some would not cooperate. I'm tired of playing with them, so cheers!

Looks like you had a great weekend. A three hour nap and waffles sound great! I am glad you are posting what you have been up to since we never get to talk anymore! I like to know what you are doing :)
We love the WP Parade! We go every year. Glad you had a good 4th. (3rd...)
I know Bre, I need to give you a call, sorry I have been MIA. Let me know when you have a sec to skype!
Maryn, I swear only those of us who grew up in West Point can fully appreciate the ol' West Point parade, good to hear you guys are keeping the fire alive!!!
as am I, you know, keeping the fire alive!!! I drag Jason every year and he rolls his eyes at all the tractors and usually the monster trucks, but they didnt show this year!! Where is "your spot?" Ours is by the llamas, we make a killing every year because we are usually the only ones who can put up with the smell....some folks are catchin on though! Wish we could have seen you there.
Now, by the llama's, that is fantastic idea...I have never thought of that! We always keep to our same spot on 2300 West across the street from the Brimhall's. Its the beginning, so we either totally luck out or we get skimped on....perhaps next year I will get the fam to move down to your primo spot. Which btw...no one down here seems to believe that when we were little tykes they used to take us on field trips to the llama farm...was I dreaming?
